One suspect arrested over police recruitment scam

The Minister for the Interior, Muntaka Mohammed Mubarak, has confirmed the arrest of one person suspected of fraudulently selling recruitment slots into the security services.

The announcement was made during the Minister’s visit to selected police recruitment screening centres in Accra on Monday, January 12, 2026.

He emphasised that selection into the security services will be strictly based on merit, with no allowance for favouritism or illegal transactions.

“This usual practice, where people sit in the comfort of their homes, avoiding the proper process, is a thing of the past. Under the leadership of President John Mahama, we will not tolerate it.

“Those deceiving people online should be careful and not let anyone mislead them. Over the weekend, we arrested one person for this, and he is currently in police custody. We are watching with an eagle eye,” the Minister stated.

Meanwhile, at Damongo Senior High School in the Savannah Region, a total of 238 graduate applicants are anticipated to undergo screening on Day One, which includes documentation checks and body selection.
