One suspect arrested after tragic Obuasi robbery

A 42-year-old miner was fatally injured during a robbery at his residence located at Asonkore SSNIT Flats Down in Obuasi, situated in the Ashanti Region.

According to the police, the assailants escaped with GH¢2,600, a laptop, and a car key.

The Ashanti South Regional Police Command has apprehended one suspect, Rahman Adams, also known as Wale, in connection with the incident, while two additional suspects, including a Nigerian national, remain at large.

In a statement released by the police on Wednesday, January 21, 2026, it was noted that Adams was arrested on January 18 at Pomposo following an intelligence-led operation, occurring more than a month after the attack on December 12, 2025.

Investigations revealed that the suspects gained entry into the victim’s home by cutting through a burglar-proof window before launching their attack.

“Police responded and found the body of a 42-year-old miner inside the house,” the statement said.

The police indicated that initial findings suggested the victim was assaulted during the robbery and subsequently died at the scene.

Two other suspects have been identified as A.T. and a Nigerian national, both of whom are still being pursued by the police.

Items retrieved from the scene included hammers, machetes, and cutters, which investigators suspect were utilised to force entry into the residence and execute the attack.

The body of the deceased has since been transferred to the Obuasi Government Hospital mortuary for preservation and autopsy.

The police stated that Rahman Adams remains in custody and is cooperating with the investigations, while efforts are ongoing to locate the remaining suspects.

The Ashanti South Regional Police Command has requested assistance from the public in providing information to help find the two suspects.
