The One Ghana Movement has strongly condemned the disruptive and destructive behaviour exhibited by some members of the Appointments Committee of Ghana’s 9th Parliament during the ministerial vetting on Thursday, January 30.
In a statement issued on Friday, January 31, 2025, the civil society organization described the acts of vandalism and destruction of public property as undignified and a direct violation of Ghana’s democratic principles.
The movement emphasized that the ministerial vetting process, as outlined in Ghana’s 1992 Constitution, is a crucial mechanism for assessing nominees for public office.
It ensures that only individuals with the competence, integrity, and experience to serve the nation are approved.
This process, they noted, promotes transparency, strengthens public confidence in governance, and upholds checks and balances.
However, the group expressed deep concern over the events of Thursday when members of the Minority allegedly engaged in actions that undermined the dignity of Parliament.
The movement warned that such misconduct not only tarnishes Ghana’s democratic reputation but also erodes public trust in state institutions.
They further condemned these reckless actions, stating that they disrupt governance, waste national resources, and betray the trust of citizens.
The One Ghana Movement has urged the Speaker of Parliament, Parliamentary Leadership, and the Chairman of the Appointments Committee to enforce order and discipline during this critical national exercise.
They called for strict measures to prevent future occurrences, ensuring the integrity of the vetting process remains intact.
Additionally, the movement has called on the Attorney-General to launch a full investigation into the incident and prosecute those responsible for the destruction of state property.
They stressed that justice must be served without fear or favour, as holding offenders accountable would send a strong message that disorder and vandalism have no place in Ghana’s democracy.
