One dead, seven injured in ghastly crash at Somanya

One person has died, and seven are severely injured in an accident involving a Hyundai H100 with registration number GG 4311-15 on the Somanya Road in the Eastern Region.

The accident occurred around 5:00 pm on Tuesday at the Akorley community near Somanya.

The Hyundai car somersaulted multiple times after hitting a pothole and bursting a tyre.

The vehicle ultimately landed in a nearby stream, killing one person instantly and leaving seven others battling for their lives.

The injured victims are currently receiving treatment at the Yilo Krobo District Hospital, while the body of the deceased has been deposited at the morgue.

This incident comes after two people died in a multi-vehicle accident at Akuni No. 2 along the Adukrom-Somanya highway in the Eastern Region.

The deceased were all women, including a sports teacher and a national service person from the Yilo Krobo Senior High School.

Their Toyota Corolla, with registration number GR 901-21, collided head-on with a pickup truck with registration number GV 1263-20 on Sunday, May 19.

The pickup truck belongs to the Abuakwa North Municipal Assembly.

According to sources, the driver of the pickup truck allegedly engaged in a wrong overtaking in a curve, leading to the fatal collision that killed the two on the spot.

Also, one person died, and two others were in critical condition following an accident near Ohene Nkwanta on the Kumasi-Accra highway.

The accident occurred around 7:00 am when a man-diesel tanker truck (No. GT-5894-24) travelling from Accra to Kumasi collided with a Toyota Camry (No. AW-6414-14) from Kumasi to Accra.

The tanker truck was carrying 36,000 litres of diesel.

According to reports, the Toyota Camry overtook a Marcopolo VIP bus (No. 33-21) when the collision occurred.

The deceased and the injured are all males.
