One dead, others injured in ghastly Obuasi crash

Tragedy struck on the Obuasi-Kwapia road in the Ashanti region on October 20, 2024, when a devastating accident claimed one life and left several others injured.

The accident occurred around 1:45 pm when a Dodge vehicle (WR 810-S) veered off its lane and collided head-on with a Ford transit bus (AS 4116-4) carrying 11 passengers.

The bus was driven by 28-year-old Emmanuel Manu.

Emergency responders rushed occupants from both vehicles to Obuasi Government Hospital for treatment.

Unfortunately, one person succumbed to the injuries, and the body was deposited at the hospital mortuary pending investigations.

This tragic incident comes just one week after a horrific accident in the same region claimed 13 lives and left scores injured.

The VIP bus with registration number ER 2445-11 was travelling from Kumasi to Enchi in the Western North Region when it veered off the road at dawn on Monday, October 14.

According to sources, the bus was overloaded with stranded passengers from another bus that had broken down on the same stretch.

The sources alleged that an argument between the passengers and the driver over the overloading distracted him, causing the accident.

The injured are currently receiving treatment at a nearby health facility, while the dead bodies have been deposited at the mortuary as authorities work to identify their families.

The deceased are seven males, five females, and a child.

Meanwhile, the police have begun investigations into the exact cause of the carnage.
