One person is feared dead after a trailer crashed at Kordzeto near Hohoe in the Volta Region.
According to a Facebook update by the Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS), the Hohoe Command received a distress call at 3:09 p.m. on Thursday, February 26, and arrived at the scene shortly after.
The driver, who was the only occupant of the vehicle, became trapped in the mangled wreckage.
Firefighters worked to free him in a rescue operation led by the Hohoe Municipal Commander, DOIII Bismark Hosu-Porbley, who supervised activities at the scene.
Despite their efforts, the driver did not survive.
The crash caused extensive damage to the trailer and its cargo of cement, leaving debris scattered across the roadway.
Emergency personnel moved swiftly to secure the area and prevent further danger to motorists and nearby residents.
“Firefighters coordinated recovery and ensured safety after the accident caused extensive damage to the trailer and its cement cargo,” the Service said in its statement.
Personnel eliminated potential fire hazards and cleared the road to restore normal traffic flow.
Meanwhile, authorities are investigating the circumstances leading to the crash.
