Omane Boamah reveals the trick for NDC’s victory in the 2024 polls
Director of Elections and ICT for the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Dr. Edward Omane Boamah, has emphasised the party’s unwavering commitment to safeguarding every parliamentary seat in the recently concluded general elections.
He explained that the NDC’s determination stemmed from their experiences in the 2020 elections, where they felt marginalised.
“We were resolute in defending every single seat because of the lessons we learnt in 2020,” Dr. Omane Boamah stated.
He alleged that the 2020 elections were marred by manipulation, which resulted in a hung parliament that did not reflect the will of Ghanaians.
According to him, the New Patriotic Party (NPP), in collaboration with the Electoral Commission (EC) and security agencies, altered the results in their favour.
This alleged interference, he claimed, led to the loss of seats and the tragic deaths of eight individuals during the electoral process.
“In 2020, Ghanaians voted for a different outcome, but the results were manipulated to benefit the NPP. This injustice compelled us to take decisive action to protect our seats this time,” he said.
Dr. Omane Boamah disclosed that the NDC implemented strategic mechanisms during the 2024 elections to secure a commanding majority in parliament.
The results demonstrate the party’s efforts, with the NDC winning 185 out of 276 parliamentary seats, giving them a two-thirds majority and control of the legislature.
Reflecting on their victory, he attributed the success to the hard work of the party’s polling station agents and the strategic planning that went into the campaign.
“This victory is well-deserved. It is a testament to the dedication and teamwork of everyone involved in the NDC’s electoral efforts,” he concluded.
The results mark a significant shift from the 2020 elections, where both the NDC and NPP secured 137 seats each, resulting in a hung parliament.
In contrast, the 2024 elections position the NDC as the clear parliamentary majority, a milestone Dr. Omane Boamah believes reflects the will of the people.
