Olympics confirm departure of talisman Gladson Awako

Ghana Premier League side, Accra Great Olympics, have announced the departure of talisman Gladson Awako.

Awako who was the captain of the Wonder Club played a vital role in helping the club finish sixth in the just-ended Premier League season.

The experienced midfielder has joined champions Hearts of Oak on a reported two-year deal and he is expected to complete his medical with the Phobians in the coming days.

Great Olympics took to their official social media pages to post a farewell message saying, “No words. Thank You.”

The club added an artwork containing some of the best stats Awako achieved during his time at the club.

 

Awako returned to Ghana after spells abroad with TP Mezembe of DR Congo and Phoenix Rising in the United States.

The 30-year old midfielder has also been included in the Phobains’s squad for the CAF Champions League and with his experience on the continent is expected to propel them to advance to the group stage of the competition.

Following his exploits in the domestic league, Awako was handed a call-up to the senior national team of Ghana by Coach CK Akonnor for the 2021 Africa Cup of Nations double-header qualifiers against South Africa and Sao Tome.
