Ghanaian rapper Armstrong Affum, widely known as Opanka, has spoken about his break from music and how he intends to stay relevant upon his return.
In an interview, he revealed that he took time off to focus on his education, which he considers vital to his life.
However, he noted that he always returns to music because it is part of who he is and represents his natural talent.
Although he admitted that the break affected his popularity, Opanka remains optimistic about sustaining his visibility regardless of the challenges, believing in the adage that “an old soldier never dies.”
“I’m in the United States and I’m in Ghana. I’m schooling there and doing other stuff so I had to put a pause on the music. Music is not like football, where we have expiring age and education is also very important. I knew music can never leave me so let me just pause.”
“It did affect my popularity, but you know, old soldiers never die. So it’s in me, and I don’t have to force it.”
Since Opanka stated that he is not overly concerned about fame, he emphasised that his main focus is on creating lively and inspiring music for his fans and the wider audience.
He believes that if he were able to gain popularity in his early days in the industry, it would not be difficult to reclaim it upon his return.
“Honestly, I don’t want to say I don’t care about the popularity. We do care of course but then the focus is on me doing the music not the popularity it comes with. When it’s good and I when I’m able to do it like if I did it before, it’s going to be easy,” he said optimistically.
Dadie Opanka is currently studying Finance in the US and has just released a new song titled ‘No Mercy.’
