A 24-year-old Okada rider was shot dead by a robbery gang who made off with his motorbike at Kwarfokurom near Nsawam in the Eastern Region.
The victim, Kwame Mensah, worked in the Nsawam area to support himself and his family since completing senior high school.
According to reports, the gang had hired Kwame’s services to transport them to Kwarfokurom, near Nsawam.
However, halfway through the journey, the criminals turned on Kwame, shooting him and forcefully taking possession of his motorbike.
The heartbroken mother of the deceased, overcome with grief, spoke to the media and made an emotional plea for justice on behalf of her family.
Adding his voice, the former Member of Parliament for Ayensuano, Samuel Ayepaye, made a passionate appeal to the Inspector General of Police, Dr. George Akuffo Dampare, to ensure the perpetrators face the full rigours of the law.
Mr Ayepaye also called for increased police patrols in the Ayensuano District and neighbouring municipalities to combat the rising number of attacks targeting Okada riders and other residents.
