A ride-hailing driver, who was later identified as an off-duty police officer has been arrested for allegedly shooting a male adult in Accra.
The incident occurred at Koans Estate near Kuntunse on Sunday, August 18, 2024, around 4 am, over a disagreement about transport fare.
In a statement, the police said the alleged altercation was between the deceased, identified as Stanley Ahadzi, and General Constable Smith Gyeke, over a disputed transport fare.
Initial reports suggested that Constable Gyeke had picked up a passenger, Esther Owusua, from Ablekuma Joma and to the Koans Estate area.
Ms Owusua had called the deceased, Stanley Ahadzi, to assist her with directions to her destination.

The situation escalated, and Constable Gyeke, who was allegedly annoyed, pulled out his sidearm and shot Stanley Ahadzi.
The body of the deceased has since been deposited at the Police Hospital morgue for preservation and autopsy.
The suspect is in police custody as part of the investigation into the incident.
Meanwhile, the Inspector-General of Police, Dr George Akuffo Dampare and members of the Police Management Board (POMAB) have visited the family of the deceased to commiserate with them.
