#OccupyBoG demo: the culture of impunity must be broken- Inusah Fuseini
A former Member of Parliament for Tamale Central, Inusah Fuseini has suggested that citizens who are appointed to serve in the interest of the citizens and fail to meet their target must be held responsible.
Mr. Fuseini joining the Minority and hundreds of Ghanaians in protesting against the management of the central bank on Tuesday, October 3, 2023, said it is his responsibility as a citizen of Ghana to ensure that the political law of Ghana does not decay as the country is wallowing economic hardship.
Moreover, the former Chairman of the Legal and Constitutional Committee of Parliament noted that it is the duty of President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo to ensure that public appointees are punished for their irresponsibilities to serve as a deterrent to others.
“The culture of impunity must be broken, in fact, the cycle of impunity must be taken away from this system. This country is a country of law which has passed the public act law and the actions of the Bank of Ghana are regulated by law”.
“The Governor of the Bank of Ghana has decided to act with impunity and has decided to act above the law. As a responsible citizen of Ghana, I have to ensure that the political law of Ghana does not decay”.
“What is happening in Ghana now is in all institutions and the president has failed to act as his attention is needed”.
Inusah Fuseini in an interview recently criticized the decision of the Bank of Ghana to construct a new building project while the institution is facing financial difficulties.
According to him, the BoG holds a fiduciary responsibility to the people of Ghana because the bank belongs to the entire Ghanaian populace.
According to him, the decision taken by BoG must be taken prudently and the bank should be accountable.
“No one is saying that they conceived the idea of building a bank in 2017, no one has said that, but building the bank in 2021 at the height of our economic and social crisis, was it a prudent decision?”
“That goes to show that the bank has been so mismanaged and the managers of the bank have not exercised prudence in their decision making and that has led us to the situation in which we are,” he said.
The minority and some Ghanaians have intended to occupy the Bank of Ghana premises in the course of the demonstration to demand the resignation of the Governor and his deputies over mismanagement at the central bank although the police have cautioned them against demonstration at the premises of the Bank of Ghana.
