Obuasi Clash: Seven miners laid to rest

Seven miners who tragically lost their lives during a violent clash with military personnel in Obuasi were laid to rest in a sombre ceremony.

The miners, suspected to be illegal miners, were killed in the confrontation at an abandoned concession belonging to AngloGold Ashanti.

Their bodies were released to their families for an Islamic burial at the Obuasi Government Hospital, where a mass burial took place.

The Obuasi Chief Imam led the funeral prayers as grieving relatives and community members gathered to mourn their loss.

The deadly incident occurred when the miners allegedly breached a security fence at one of AngloGold Ashanti’s abandoned mining sites.

Military personnel on guard confronted the miners, leading to a violent clash that resulted in the deaths of seven individuals.

The community has expressed deep sorrow and frustration over the incident, with many questioning the circumstances surrounding the violent confrontation.

Two of the victims, who were non-Muslims, remain at the morgue.

Medical officers are set to conduct autopsies and prepare an official report, which will be submitted to the police.

The findings will be forwarded to the President as part of the ongoing investigation into the incident.

Residents have called for a thorough and impartial inquiry, urging authorities to ensure accountability and take steps to prevent similar tragedies in the future.

In response to the rising tensions in the community, security measures have been increased in Obuasi.
