NYA’s success stories: Over 300 young people trained in digital marketing and technology

In its quest to solve the growing unemployment canker in the country, the National Youth Authority says it has undertaken a number of innovative projects.

The projects which were started in 2017 till date, saw to the effective use of digital marketing and technology.

The Chief Executive Officer of the National Youth Authority, Slyvester Tetteh made this known at the Nation Building Updates on Tuesday.

Since the implementation of the program, the authority boast of over 300 young people who have been trained to use technology to solve problems.

The CEO explained that the online digital marketing and entrepreneurial training was created to equip the youth in digital marketing.

“With the fast growth in digital marketing, the authority deemed it fit to introduce young people’s businesses to the digital world,” he stated.

He also disclosed that close to 3,000 youth were trained across the country.

The authority also presented the beneficiaries of the programme, a tablet each, to help as a start-up tool.

According to Mr Tetteh, the training also provided some of the beneficiaries the opportunities to start their own business.

“With the crucial role of technology in today’s dispensation, a four-week mobile app development program was organised for young people to use technology to solve problems.

“Through the NYA and UNDP connect platform, 16 young people with innovative business ideas were supported with a total of $80,000.00 to start their businesses.

“Training on street light installation and repairs..100, 000 people were trained in street lights repairs, maintenance installation and provided with start-up tools.

“Youth livelihood farms is an agricultural initiative designed for the youth for the purpose of motivating them to accept farming as a viable commercial venture.

The authority further revealed that the agricultural initiative has helped mobilised young people to cultivate 500 acres of land.

“These farms are located in the Upper West, Ashanti and Eastern Region,” the NYA boss outlined as some of the successes chalked by the authority.

The beneficiaries of the program, who were thrilled with the initiative expressed their excitement.

“I heard about the entrepreneurial and digital marketing through WhatsApp. It was even in the night, I applied and thankfully, l was called.

“Through, the digital marketing we learnt how to advertise using the various social media platforms. I was also able to create blogs and websites.

“I initially thought smartphones were just for making calls until I had the opportunity to join the online digital platform. The training has really helped me,” one of the beneficiaries said.
