The Ghana Registered Nurses and Midwives Association (GRNMA) has called off its planned protest over an increase in license verification fees.
This comes after the Ministry of Health assured them of resolving the issues.
The nurses earlier announced plans for protests, including a withdrawal of services from Out-Patient departments of health facilities, in response to the increase in license verification fees, which have risen from GH¢550 to GH¢3,000.
The Association emphasized the necessity for the government to implement policies ensuring that nurses and midwives in Ghana receive better working conditions compared to their counterparts in other countries.
Speaking after a meeting with officials from the ministry, the President of the GRNMA, Perpetual Ofori-Ampofo, said an agreement had been reached to reconsider the fee.
“The important thing is that this meeting has had an understanding that there is a need to reduce the fee. All parties understand this clearly, and that is good for us. And it will be left with the ultimate entity which is Parliament to approve any new fee that is reached in terms of how the discussions go at the board level,” she said.
