Ntim Fordjour demands suspension of GAF recruitment after El-Wak tragedy
Ranking Member of Parliament’s Defence and Interior Committee, Rev. John Ntim Fordjour, has called for the immediate suspension of the ongoing recruitment exercise into the Ghana Armed Forces following Wednesday’s tragic stampede at the El-Wak Sports Stadium, which claimed six lives and left several others injured.
Rev. Fordjour stressed that the process must be stopped without delay to prevent further loss of life.
“The process must be halted immediately. Halt it immediately and let us prioritise lives,” he said in an interview after the incident.
He described the tragedy as deeply saddening and emphasized the urgent need to review the recruitment process to improve crowd control and strengthen safety measures for future exercises.
“As we halt it, we need to get back to the table and review the entire process,” he suggested.
The lawmaker further called for a full investigation into the circumstances that led to the disaster, insisting that accountability and reform are necessary to restore public confidence in the recruitment process.
“A full investigation has to be undertaken to establish the fact, and reviews have to be put into the process for us to be able to save lives.”
