NSS to close registration as half remain unregistered — Deputy DG
The National Service Scheme has announced that its registration system will be closed on Friday, even though only half of this year’s deployed personnel have reported to complete the process.
The Deputy Director General in charge of Operations, Fuseini Donkor, expressed concern over what he described as a worrying level of delay among prospective service personnel.
In an interview, he noted that despite repeated reminders, the reporting rate has remained low. Many regional offices, he explained, are experiencing long periods of inactivity because personnel are simply not showing up to complete their registration.
He warned that the system would not remain open past the deadline and urged all remaining personnel to take the directive seriously.
Donkor shared his frustration about attempts by some individuals to bypass the normal process.
He said some personnel are staying away from their assigned regions because they believe they can later return with money to influence a change in their posting.
This behaviour, he added, places unnecessary pressure on staff who are ready to work with all personnel fairly and transparently.
With the deadline only days away, the Deputy Director General made a clear appeal.
“We need everyone to show up and register because this is their national obligation and we want them to begin the service year on the right footing,” he said.
The NSS has indicated that more updates will be released as the deadline approaches.
The Scheme is urging all personnel who have yet to report to take immediate steps to complete their registration to avoid complications.
