Management of the National Service Scheme (NSS) has invited the NSS Ashanti Regional Director Alex Opoku-Mensah, who is alleged to have verbally attacked a female nurse.

Mr Opoku-Mensah was captured on tape hurling unprintable words at a female nurse at the Manhyia Hospital for undermining the authority of his daughter, who also works at the said hospital.

Running to the defence of his daughter, the director in question barged into the hospital’s surgical ward and verbally abused and threatened the nurse.

In the said audio, the angry NSS director is heard questioning the competence of the said nurse and further threatening to get her fired from her post.

Describing the incident as unfortunate, management of the NSS, in a statement, said it had taken note of happenings at the Manhyia Hospital between a director of the scheme and a Manhyia Hospital staff.

“The management of the scheme regrets the unfortunate incident and wishes to reiterate its commitment and assurance to the public and the nursing fraternity of our dedication to getting this matter resolved,” a statement said on Tuesday, November 29.

Meanwhile, the director who has come under the limelight for the wrong reasons has since apologised for his conduct.

In a Facebook post, Mr Opoku-Mensah said the modus operandi he employed in handling the friction between his daughter, a doctor, and the nurse has never been his style.

“I understand the disappointment and appreciate the inconvenience my action has caused the general public and the Nursing FRATERNITY and Manhyia Hospital.

“This has never been my style, but for a genuine reason to mediate a persistent issue between my daughter(Doctor) and a colleague nurse who I as well consider my daughter.

“I do apologise for any mishap and assure all. There shall not be a repetition of such. I look forward to maintaining a cordial relationship with any affected person,” he said in a post.
