NSA Board Chairman proposes the reservation of one stadium for special use like Wembley

Seth Panwum, the Board Chairman of the National Sports Authority, has suggested reserving one of Ghana’s national stadiums for special events, particularly national team matches.

This proposal follows the Confederation of African Football’s decision to withdraw approval for Baba Yara Sports Stadium for Category Three matches.

Currently, Ghana is set to host Sudan abroad due to the lack of a certified stadium in the country.

During his appearance before the Parliamentary Select Committee on Sports this Wednesday, Panwum highlighted the need for a dedicated stadium to avoid situations like having to play home games overseas.

“The problem we face is the pressure on the facilities. Supposing we had not closed down, Accra, Hearts, Accra Lions, Olympics, and Dreams FC would all be using it in a week,” he said.

“So, there is no time to maintain the pitch and restore it before the next match.

“We can recommend a national stadium like Wembley. If the government can raise funds, we can have our league clubs use a different stadium so that the national stadium will be reserved.”
