NPP youth to protest on September 23 over unfair treatment by police

The National Youth Wing of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) is planning a street protest on Tuesday, September 23, 2025.

The demonstration comes in response to what the group believes is unfair treatment of its members by the police.

The announcement was made by Salam Mustapha, the party’s National Youth Organiser, in a Facebook post on Friday, September 12.

It followed a court decision to remand Bono Regional Chairman of the NPP, Kwame Baffoe, also known as Abronye DC, into police custody for another week.

“Tuesday, 23rd September, the National Youth Wing will organise a demo against the state-sponsored police harassment. From Obra Spot to police headquarters. 6 a.m. sharp!” Mustapha wrote on Facebook.

According to the party, the protest will begin at Obra Spot in Accra and end at the Police Headquarters.

They plan to submit a petition to the Inspector General of Police, calling for an end to what they describe as politically motivated arrests and intimidation by state security agencies.

Abronye DC was originally detained on Monday, September 8, for what the police called “offensive conduct conducive to the breach of public peace”.

He has since remained in custody and is expected to return to court on September 19.

In a separate case, NPP’s Ashanti Regional Chairman, Bernard Antwi Boasiako, also known as Chairman Wontumi, is under investigation for alleged financial misconduct, including fraud and money laundering.

Several other party members are reportedly facing legal trouble as well.

The NPP Youth Wing says it wants to bring public attention to what it views as a growing pattern of political targeting.
