The New Patriotic Party (NPP) will today, Tuesday, July 9, unveil Dr. Matthew Opoku Prempeh as the running mate to its flagbearer, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia.
The ceremony will be held at Kumasi Jubilee Park in the Ashanti Region, a key party stronghold.
The event is expected to attract prominent figures within the NPP, including President Nana Akufo-Addo, the Council of Elders, Members of Parliament, and other key members.
The NPP’s National Council confirmed Dr Opoku Prempeh, the current Energy Minister, as the running mate to Dr Bawumia for the 2024 general elections on Thursday, July 4.
This decision has garnered widespread acclaim from top party officials, including President Nana Akufo-Addo, who has expressed confidence in the duo’s ability to lead the party to victory in the 2024 general elections.
However, others have tagged him as arrogant and hotheaded.
Despite criticisms of his arrogance, the NPP has mounted a robust defence of NAPO. The party maintains that NAPO is bold, assertive, and driven, and the results of his work are evident in the lives of many young Ghanaians.
Others have suggested that NAPO use prepared scripts for future public appearances to guide his utterances and mitigate potential gaffes.
The unveiling of Dr. Opoku Prempeh marks a significant step in the NPP’s campaign for the 2024 general election, as the party rallies behind its new ticket to maintain its governance and leadership in Ghana.
