The New Patriotic Party’s Yendi Constituency Chairman, Nashiru Abdul Karim, has suspended 184 members for breaching the party’s constitution.
A statement dated, December 26, 2024, said the decision was made in line with Article 3 Clause (9)(1), Clause (7)(1), and Clause (8)(1) of the party’s 2017 amended constitution.
This followed several complaints from other members alleging constitutional breaches by the 184 individuals.
The complaints highlighted misconduct related to the just-ended presidential and parliamentary elections.
It added that an expanded Constituency Executive Committee meeting was convened to investigate the complaints thoroughly.
The meeting, which included members of the Council of Elders, the Council of Patrons, and the Disciplinary Committee, unanimously decided to suspend the implicated individuals.
“I write to humbly notify the National and Regional leadership of the party, as well as the general public, that the following members of the party have forfeited their membership or have been summarily suspended with effect from 26th December 2024,” the Yendi chairman said.
He added that this action was taken to ensure accountability and adherence to the party’s constitutional framework.
This comes after the party sacked 280 members in the Agona West constituency of the Central region.
The number comprised a significant number of executives from constituency to polling station levels.
A statement signed by the constituency chairman, Alhaji Gibrine Tanko, clarified that several complaints were received from other party members against the said persons over anti-party misconduct.
The charges levelled against them include standing as an independent candidate against the NPP’s officially elected 2024 parliamentary candidate, joining or declaring their support for another political party, supporting an independent candidate in the just-ended December 7 parliamentary election in the constituency, and continuously demonstrating such character against the party in every election year.
