The leadership of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) in the Upper East Region has suspended 17 members over alleged anti-party conduct.

Sixteen of the suspended persons are from the Tempane Constituency, and one is from the Builsa South Constituency.

This brings the total number of suspended members in the region to 23 after the party suspended six members from the Pusiga constituency a few days ago.

Confirming the news on Wednesday, March 5, one of the suspended members, Jambeidu Ibrahim, accused former Deputy Attorney General and parliamentary candidate for Tempane constituency, Joseph Kpemka, of orchestrating their suspension.

The Upper East Region is the new region to be hit with the mass suspension in the NPP following their defeat in the 2024 elections.

In January, the party branch in the Tatale Sanguli constituency of the Northern Region suspended 58 members for allegedly failing to support the party’s official candidate in the 2024 elections.

On December 26, the party announced the suspension of 184 members in the Yendi constituency in the same region for breaching the party’s constitution.

This followed the suspension of 280 members in the Agona West constituency of the Central region.

A statement signed by the constituency chairman, Alhaji Gibrine Tanko, clarified that several complaints were received from other party members against the said persons over anti-party misconduct.
