The governing New Patriotic Party (NPP) has temporarily suspended its parliamentary primaries in the Nhyiaeso Constituency in the Ashanti Region.
This decision was made due to an interlocutory injunction filed by one of the aspirants, Kennedy Kwasi Kankam.
The Municipal Chief Executive for Asokore Mampong, Kennedy Kwasi Kankam, did not undergo vetting due to a party constitution breach.
The disgruntled aspirant has therefore, sought redress in court.
At a National Executive Committee meeting held on Wednesday, January 17, 2024, the party disqualified a contestant in the Bimbilla constituency, resulting in Minister of Defence Dominic Nitiwul running unopposed.

The party has already selected parliamentary candidates in constituencies where it does not have sitting MPs, known as orphan constituencies.
The New Patriotic Party (NPP) has cleared 326 parliamentary aspirants for the January 27, 2024, primaries to elect its parliamentary candidates in constituencies where the party has sitting Members of Parliament (MPs).
Out of the total number of 373 aspirants who filed to contest the primaries, after vetting, 29 are going unopposed, 11 were disqualified, two were referred to the National Executive Committee (NEC), two stepped down, one incomplete form, and two did not show up for vetting leaving the qualified aspirants for the primaries at 326.
