The New Patriotic Party (NPP) has postponed its parliamentary primary in the Akuapem South constituency initially scheduled for January 27, 2024.
The Municipal Chief Executive (MCE), Frank Aidoo, has petitioned the party following the withdrawal of Akuapem South MP, Osei Bonsu Amoah from the race two days ago.
The NPP had earlier prohibited Metropolitan/District Chief Executives (MMDCEs) from contesting in constituencies with sitting MPs unless the MP opted not to run.
Following O.B. Amoah’s withdrawal, the Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) has petitioned to be included in the race.
The postponement comes in response to petitions and recommendations from both the constituency and regional executive committees, according to a release signed by the party’s General Secretary, Justin Kodua Frimpong.
The decision, according to the party aims to facilitate comprehensive consultations and address concerns.
