NPP Primaries: Abu Jinapor goes unopposed for the second time in Damongo
The Member of Parliament for the Damongo Constituency, Samuel Abu Jinapor, is the only candidate contesting the New Patriotic Party (NPP) parliamentary primary in the constituency.
This is the second time Mr Jinapor is running unopposed as the parliamentary candidate in Damongo.
At the close of nominations on Monday, December 25, Mr Jinapor, who is also the Minister of Lands and Natural Resources, was the only person who had filed his nomination at the constituency.
Mr Jinapor after filing his nomination thanked the leadership of the NPP for the confidence reposed in him.
He said the Damongo constituency was a very strategic seat and crucial to breaking the eight and pledged his commitment to work with the party and the constituents to ensure that the NPP retains the seat in Parliament and deliver victory for Dr Mahamudu Bawumia.
Damongo is one of the seven constituencies in the Savannah Region, which has traditionally been held by the opposition National Democratic Congress since 1993.
In 2020, Abu Jinapor contested for the first time against the incumbent MP Adam Mutawakilu, who had been their lawmaker since 2013.
Mr Jinapor won the elections for the first time for the New Patriotic Party, with over 54% of the valid votes cast, becoming the first NPP legislator of the area since the inception of the Fourth Republic.
Meanwhile, the NPP primaries for the Members of Parliament are scheduled for Saturday, January 27, 2024
