NPP presidential race: Samira kicks off campaign to support Bawumia

Hajia Samira Bawumia, the wife of Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, has commenced an extensive campaign to garner delegates’ support for her husband in anticipation of the New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) pivotal presidential primary scheduled for January 2026.

She commenced her campaign in the Central Region, signalling a direct and resolute attempt to attract delegates from the very core of the party. This strategy is perceived as a tactical move to reinforce existing backing and effectively sway undecided voters in a crucial battleground.

In a vibrant atmosphere, Mrs. Bawumia was greeted by enthusiastic crowds as she embarked on a series of vigorous interactions with party executives, constituency delegates, and grassroots supporters.

Her objective is unequivocal: to fervently convey Dr. Bawumia’s vision and persuade the party’s base that he is the most capable candidate to lead the NPP.

Political analysts observe that Samira Bawumia’s engagement in the Central Region transcends a mere campaign stop; it serves as a compelling illustration of the Bawumia campaign’s confidence and organisational prowess.

Her well-known eloquence and charismatic rapport with the electorate, which were pivotal in the 2016 and 2020 general elections, are now being utilised in this critical internal contest.

“Samira is not just campaigning; she is on a conquest for hearts and minds in territory they need to win,” said Adwoa, Central Region Women Organiser.

“Her ‘issue-based’ and inspiring campaign style disarms opponents and builds a compelling case for her husband. Storming the Central Region this early shows they are taking no votes for granted”.

The tour highlights Mrs. Bawumia’s distinctive role as a significant force multiplier within the NPP.

Her capacity to galvanise support, especially among women and youth, establishes a notable precedent for the primaries, compelling other candidates to elevate their grassroots appeal.

This initiative in the Central Region signifies the commencement of a national tour for Samira Bawumia, with intentions to broaden her campaign to additional regions in the forthcoming weeks.

This strategy coincides with Dr. Bawumia’s own campaign efforts in the Western Region, forming a formidable dual approach to the political landscape as the January 31, 2026, primaries approach.
