NPP Presidential Race: Allow All Six To Contest November 4 Polls – Kwabena Agyepong

Former General Secretary of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) Kwabena Agyei Agyepong has said that the National Council of the party should permit six candidates to contest in the next phase of the NPP’s presidential race.

Mr Agyei Agyepong became part of the four flagbearer hopefuls who failed to garner enough votes to qualify for the next phase of the NPP presidential race.

The party had plans to shortlist the 10 candidates to five, but a tie between Francis Addai-Nimoh and Boakye Agyarko means there were six candidates at the end of the voting on Saturday, August 25.

Consequently, the party announced a runoff to separate the two to settle on five candidates.

However, Mr Agyei Agyepong believes the party would save costs if it proceeds with the six candidates.

He stated that he would present this matter for discussion during the council’s scheduled meeting on Wednesday, August 30.

“The National Council is meeting on Wednesday; I am a member. If I have the opportunity, I will suggest that they should allow them to join.

For him, “Six is not different from five,” so having all of them in the final polls will not be out of place.

“After all, the whole idea behind pruning down was because of the massive numbers that we saw in 2007 when I was the youngest of the 17 aspirants and this time we had 10, which with some of us, in our view, we could have allowed us to go straight on,” he added.
