A presidential aspirant of the governing New Patriotic Party (NPP), Dr Owusu Afriyie Akoto has asserted that the morale of the supporters and activists of the party shows that retaining power in the 2024 general election will be impossible.
According to the former Minister of Food and Agriculture, the unfulfilled promises by most of the members of the party have discouraged the loyal supporters of the party.
Dr. Akoto addressing the media in Kumasi during his tour ahead of the November 4, delegates conference said “It is clear to me that morale is very low. The expectation of our activists around the country for a better life has not been realised so the NPP is not in a good place to contest to retain power next year,” he said.
He advised that the issue of not realising promises in the party should be taken seriously and addressed, adding that “anybody who aspires to bear the flag of the NPP, that should be the priority”.
Dr. Akoto further suggested to the delegates that he is the best candidate for the NPP who can change the mindset of the supporters to have a love for the party which can be reflected in the series of campaigns before the 2024 election.
Moreover, he appealed to the delegates to choose him as the flagbearer of the party on November, 4 to ensure that the NPP breaks ‘the 8″ which is the focus of the party in the upcoming election.
“I have a very clear understanding of the problems on the ground because I have been a Member of Parliament in Kwadaso here in Kumasi so I understand the concerns expressed by activists on the ground”.
The other three flagbearer aspirants participating in the November 4 presidential primaries are Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, Kennedy Ohene Agyapong and Francis Addai-Nimo.
