NPP election loss committee is “bogus” – Adwoa Safo

Former Member of Parliament (MP) for Dome-Kwabenya Sarah Adwoa Safo has questioned the credibility of the 11-member committee tasked to probe the New Patriotic Party (NPP) defeat in the 2024 elections.

The committee is chaired by Professor Aaron Mike Oquaye, a former Speaker of Parliament.

Adwoa Safo described the committee as “bogus”, suggesting that its primary role is to single out Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia as the main reason behind the NPP’s significant loss in the recent elections.

“The committee is bogus. It’s an intentional committee put together just to frame certain facts and push a particular candidate away from the candidacy so that we can bring our own, and you call that a credible committee?” she quizzed.

She explained: “If Prof. Mike Oquaye thinks he has integrity [and] he is credible, I want the first page of the fact-finding report on why his son Mike Oquaye Jnr. lost Dome-Kwabenya seat. He should give us a detailed report on that.

“If he is able to do it with the needed integrity and transparency without biases and prejudices, I will take any report findings he puts in there against Dr. Bawumia; otherwise, that report will not work in the party.”

“There are other credible members. There should be a better person in the party to chair the committee,” she added in an interview monitored by The Ghana Report on Joy News.

Meanwhile, the leadership of the NPP is expecting the committee to engage stakeholders, including party members, grassroots supporters, and political analysts, to ensure a thorough review of why the party lost in the recent election.

The findings of the 11-member committee are anticipated to play a pivotal role in shaping the NPP’s strategy moving forward.
