NPP Delegates Conference: We spent months merging over 300 proposals – Oppong Nkrumah
Kojo Oppong Nkrumah, MP for Ofoase Ayirebi, has revealed that it took more than three months of hard work and extensive consultations to streamline over 300 amendment proposals into 56 motions now being discussed at the New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) National Delegates Conference.
In an interview on Saturday, 19 July, Oppong Nkrumah shared insight into the behind-the-scenes efforts that shaped the agenda for the conference, currently taking place at the University of Ghana Stadium.
The event has brought together over 5,500 delegates from across the country under the theme “Rebuilding Together with Our Values”.
He described the process as rigorous and inclusive, noting that some topics attracted up to 20 different proposals, which had to be carefully merged into a single motion through stakeholder discussions and detailed consultations.
“It took about three months to consolidate the about 300 proposals and engage various stakeholders to bring them to this number,” he said. “You have to consult and see how to convert those 20 proposals into one motion.”
Oppong Nkrumah stressed that none of the proposals were ignored. Instead, the Constitutional Amendment Committee worked to ensure that similar suggestions were blended through focus groups and feedback sessions with proposers.
He added that this approach was designed to give everyone a sense of ownership in the final outcomes, even if individual names did not appear on the motion paper.
Chair of the Planning Committee, Joseph Osei Owusu, also confirmed that each motion represents the shared voice of both party leadership and grassroots members, and will go through full debate and voting.
