This was announced after an emergency National Council meeting on Friday, February 23, 2024.
Speaking to the media after the meeting, Henry Nana Boakye, the National Organizer of the party said the MP for Effutu, Alexander Afenyo-Markin, is the new leader of the Majority.
Patricia Appiagyei, MP for Asokwa, deputizes him.
Describing the new Majority Leader who served as the Deputy Majority Leader, Nana Boakye said Mr Afenyo-Markin has a lot to offer the party.
“We know the experience he is coming with. He is a very dedicated, sharp intelligent young man,” he said.
The other leaders are the MP for Nsawam/Adoagyiri, Frank Annoh Dompreh, who maintains his position as the Majority Chief Whip.
Habib Iddrisu, MP for Tolon and Alex Tetteh Djornobuah, MP for Sefwi Akontombra also maintain their roles as First and Second Deputy Majority Chief Whips.
Meanwhile, the General Secretary of the NPP, Justin Kodua Frimpong is expected to formally communicate the changes to the Speaker of Parliament.
The Speaker will subsequently announce the leadership changes on the floor.
He will, however, keep his role as the Minister for Parliamentary Affairs.
