NPP Conference: Don’t underestimate the intelligence of delegates – Nana B
National Organizer aspirants in the 2022 New Patriotic Party congress, Henry Nana Boakye, has refuted allegations that certain delegates are being coerced.
Two candidates, Stephen Asamoah Boateng for National Chairman and Titus Glover for National Organiser, had already claimed that some opponents were paying delegates to sway their votes.
However, Henry Nana Boakye refuted those assertions by claiming that the national delegates are intelligent and should not be undervalued.
” I do not know anything about vote buying but i must say we should not underestimate the delegates, they are independent thinkers and intelligent people” he said
Touting himself as the right man for the National Organiser position, the private legal practitioner said he was a huge investment for the party.
” While, I know that filling the big shoes of my big brother Sammy Awuku will not be easy, I am poise for this position and as i keep saying I am an investment for this party and I have prepared myself for this” he added.
Vote buying remains a threat to Ghana’s democracy as it poses serious challenges to free and fair elections, and the legitimacy of political office holders.
Each election year and in almost every local and institutional elections, the issue of vote buying re-surfaces as it has almost become part of every election in Ghana.
Many stakeholders within the political space, as well as leaders of civil society organisations, have been calling for the need for systematic monitoring of the issue of vote buying during campaign periods.
This will encourage naming and shaming political parties who engage in the practice, in order to reduce or cure the canker.
The NPP is electing its new national executives today at the Accra Sports Stadium, the national executives who will be elected today are expected to steer the affairs of the party going into the 2024 general elections.
