NPP calls for the arrest of NDC executives over death threats
The New Patriotic Party (NPP) has condemned the leadership of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) over the threats of death and a series of violence during the Akwatia by-election held on September 2, 2025.
In a statement issued by the General Secretary, Justin Kodua Frimpong, on September 3, 2025, the NPP accused the NDC’s First National Vice Chairman, Chief Sofo Azorka, and the party’s Abuakwa North Constituency Communication Officer, Alhaji Abdul Wahab Amadu, of threatening Minority Leader Alexander Afenyo-Markin, National Organiser Henry Nana Boakye, and MP for Nsawam-Adoagyiri Frank Annor Dompreh.
The NPP also accused the incumbent government of an “unprovoked physical attack” on its Third National Vice Chairman, Alhaji Osman Masawudu, allegedly carried out by Chief Sofo Azorka and his associates.
According to the NPP, the conduct of the NDC leadership during the by-election undermines Ghana’s democracy and could worsen insecurity, especially in light of the country’s recent decline in the Global Peace Index.
The NPP further called on the Inspector General of Police (IGP) to arrest and investigate Chief Sofo Azorka over his violent action.
