NPP Bono Regional Chairman Abronye arrested
Kwame Baffoe, the Bono Regional Chairman of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), popularly known as Abronye, has reportedly been arrested.
It is still unclear what necessitated Abronye’s arrest.
His arrest comes barely a day after the President of Imani Africa, Franklin Cudjoe, called on the Inspector General of Police to investigate Abronye’s claims of threats on his life.
Earlier, Abronye allegedly sent a letter to various embassies, including Côte d’Ivoire, the United States, France, Italy, Canada, Spain, the United Kingdom, and Germany, seeking political asylum.
In his asylum request, he expressed concerns about “consistent, escalating political persecution, threats to my life, and systemic abuse of state security powers by the current Government of Ghana,” which he cited as reasons for pursuing international protection.
Meanwhile, armed police officers searched the home of former NPP Youth Organiser, Moses Abor, on Sunday in connection with this situation, but Abronye was reportedly not found at that location.
