No social event will be held at the Accra Sports Stadium — Bawa Majeed
The Deputy Director General of the National Sports Authority (NSA), Bawa Majeed, has announced that the Accra Sports Stadium will no longer host social events, a measure aimed at ensuring the facility remains in top condition for national team matches.
This decision comes in response to last month’s close call, where Ghana faced a scramble to secure a venue for its AFCON qualifier against Sudan. The Baba Yara Sports Stadium was suspended by CAF, leaving the government to rush the approval of the Accra Sports Stadium.
Majeed stressed that the NSA will prioritize sports at the stadium, saying, “We will designate a facility for the national team, which will remain available to them whenever they are called to service, and we will ensure that the facility is protected. Nothing else than sports will take place at the facility,” he told Akoma FM.
“As we speak, the Accra Sports Stadium has received Caf and FIFA permission, and it will be operated as a national facility, which means no extracurricular activities will take place there.”
Ghana will face Angola away and Niger at home next month in the last two 2025 AFCON Qualifiers.
