Following the fire incident at the Kwame Nkrumah Circle in Accra on Wednesday, June 5, 2024, the Regional Minister, Mr Daniel Nii-Kwartei Titus Glover, has directed squatters on the ‘Circle ECOMOG’s land to vacate the place immediately, as the government has no plans of resettling them.

The fire outbreak, which began around 5:30 p.m., destroyed several wooden structures along the railway line near the Odaw drain.

The fire also ravaged the entire area located under a GRIDCo high-voltage transmission line.

Addressing the media and victims at Circle, the Regional Minister expressed concern about the continuous fire outbreaks in the area and emphasized the need to protect human lives and public property.

Additionally, he said the Regional Coordinating Council will collaborate with the security services to ensure strict enforcement of the directive.

Mr Glover also expressed concern about the living conditions of the affected residents, citing the sanitation situation and crime rates in the community.

Meanwhile, the Regional Chief Officer Grade 1, ACFO1 for the Ghana National Fire Service, Roberta Aggrey Ghanson, said investigations are underway to ascertain the cause of the fire outbreak.

Barely a year ago, the former Greater Accra Regional Minister, Henry Quartey, donated GH¢2,000 each to 45 affected traders at Cirle who lost their goods through a fire outbreak to start a new business.

The total money, which was GH¢90,000, was released from the Korle Klottey Municipal Assemblies Common Fund.

Mr. Quartey decried continuous fire outbreaks across the country that were destroying property.

He urged the health and safety department of the assemblies to liaise with market queens and traders to identify the causes and find solutions.
