No nationwide blackout on July 13 – Energy Ministry clarifies
The Ministry of Energy and Green Transition has firmly dismissed reports suggesting that Ghana will face a nationwide power outage on Sunday, July 13, 2025, calling such claims inaccurate and misleading.
Contrary to the alarming reports, Energy and Green Transition Minister John Abdulai Jinapor announced only the possibility of temporary power interruptions on that day.
These potential disruptions are linked to a planned maintenance shutdown by ENI, aimed at boosting gas production and servicing its facilities.
Clarifying the situation in an interview on Wednesday, July 9, Richmond Rockson, the Ministry’s Spokesperson and Head of Communications, emphasized that no nationwide blackout is expected.
“There have been some false media reports claiming a total blackout across the country. That is not what the Minister said, it’s simply untrue,” Rockson stated.

He further explained, “The Minister clearly indicated that while ENI’s scheduled maintenance might lead to brief interruptions in power supply, the Ministry has implemented measures to ensure this does not escalate into nationwide outages or a return to widespread ‘dumsor'”.
The Ministry urges the public to disregard sensational headlines and rely on official updates for accurate information regarding the nation’s energy situation.
