No more filling of landing cards at KIA effective March 31 – Bawumia
From March 31, 2023, airline passengers travelling to Ghana will no longer be required to fill out landing forms at the Kotoka International Airport.
This is one of the measures the airport is implementing to streamline operations and increase its competitiveness on a worldwide scale.
The move is also expected to reduce facility wait times.
The announcement was made on Facebook by Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia following a meeting with some aviation industry players.
Disclosing the innovation on February 10, Dr Bawumia explained that it “is because the same information can be obtained electronically.”
“Furthermore, the Ministry of Interior and the Ghana Immigration Service have been directed to ensure that E-Gates will be operational at KIA this year for use by passengers using their Passports or Ghanacards,” he added.
According to the Vice President, “the processes that passengers go through at KIA are also going to be streamlined to reduce the time spent by passengers and avoid duplication drastically.”
The Vice President who has been leading the Akufo-Addo government’s digitalisation drive said this is a result of a productive meeting on improving the competitiveness of Kotoka International Airport (KIA) with key stakeholders.
The meeting included the Ministers for Public Enterprises and Transport and his deputy, as well as representatives from the Ghana Airports Company Limited (GACL), Ghana Immigration Service, National Security and Interior Ministry.
