The Ministry of Foreign Affairs has advised that Ghanaian nationals travelling to Senegal are not required to present vaccination certificates as a condition of entry.
In a public notice issued on Thursday, March 26, 2026, the ministry said vaccination certificates are not mandatory for entry into Senegal, although travellers are encouraged to take the necessary vaccines before departure.
The advisory follows a policy change by the Government of Senegal.
In a communiqué dated March 9, 2026, Senegal’s Ministry of African Integration, Foreign Affairs and Senegalese Abroad stated that international travellers would no longer be required to show vaccination certificates on arrival as part of efforts to ease border procedures.
The Senegalese authorities explained that vaccinations against yellow fever, diphtheria, pertussis, tetanus, measles, and hepatitis A and B are now recommended for personal health reasons, but are no longer a requirement for entry.
Ghana’s Foreign Affairs Ministry restated this position, noting that travellers should still consult health professionals and ensure they are up to date with routine vaccinations before travelling.
The ministry, however, drew attention to an exception regarding yellow fever. It said travellers arriving from countries with a risk of yellow fever transmission are still required to present proof of vaccination, including those with transit stops exceeding 12 hours.
Ghana is classified among countries with a risk of yellow fever transmission, and the ministry advised travellers to confirm requirements with health authorities before departure.
International health agencies have also advised travellers to take additional vaccines when visiting Senegal. These include typhoid, hepatitis A and B, polio, meningitis, influenza, COVID-19, and measles, mumps and rubella.
Health authorities have further warned of rising measles cases in some parts of the world and the continued presence of poliovirus in certain destinations, urging travellers to be fully vaccinated before international travel.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs said it will continue to provide travel information to help protect Ghanaian citizens travelling abroad.
