No load-shedding exercise from October to December – ECG
The Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) has denied reports that it is going to undertake another load-shedding exercise in some parts of the country’s capital, Accra.
The ECG said it had no plans of commencing power outages, but such plans would be effectively communicated to the public and its customers as and when it becomes necessary.
This comes after media reports suggesting that the company had released a timetable for a two-month load shedding exercise starting from October 5 to December 5.
At a press briefing on Wednesday, ECG’s Managing Director Kwame Agyeman-Badu called on the public to disregard the said publication.
“We have enough power supply and we also have enough gas to support our generation plants to supply adequate power to our network,” he said.
According to him, with the last phase yet to begin, the team has not concluded the details about the possible impact the maintenance work will have on the power supply hence cannot indicate whether or not there will be outages.
“We are now preparing for the last phase of the upgrade works which requires engagements with stakeholders and regulators to agree on the final date to commence work. We have just started with the process of discussing with GRIDCo to know the impact of the works on power supply,” he added.
The engagement with stakeholders, he said, was necessary because the company had to consider the impact of the project on its customers in order to devise means to mitigate it.
“We are yet to come out with the final timetable and the date of commencement,” he said.
The Managing Director assured all its stakeholders of enough generation of power supply for continued stable power.
“If there should be the need for any planned outage we will inform the public accordingly,” he added.
He further assured that households and businesses may not experience any power outages as it plans to transfer the power load to the Kasoa Bulk Supply Plant.
