The Volta Regional Health Directorate of the Ghana Health Service (GHS) has denied social media reports of HIV/AIDS incidence at the Ho Technical University.
The report, published by an unverified and unknown news portal, was titled: “Hookup Trend Leads to HIV Outbreak at Ho Technical University: Over 400 students suspected positive”.
In a statement, the Regional Health Directorate categorically stated that the publication was entirely false.
It added that a comprehensive review of the HIV testing data in health facilities across the Ho Municipality and the entire Volta Region indicated no significant increase in recorded HIV cases within any facility or the region.
Therefore, the claim of a surge in HIV cases at Ho Technical University or any other tertiary institution in the Volta Region is unequivocally refuted.
The Volta Regional Health Directorate, in collaboration with its partners, has successfully implemented various strategies to combat HIV/AIDS. These strategies aim to reduce new infections by 85% and eliminate mother-to-child transmission.
The region encourages residents to actively participate in disease awareness campaigns and take advantage of tailored services that meet their specific needs. HIV services are readily available in private and public health facilities throughout the Volta Region.
The authority used the opportunity to remind the public that HIV is still real, and all must endeavour to live positively through sexual abstinence or stay faithful and use condoms.
