No artist in my class has done what I’ve achieved, says Stonebwoy on filling out Accra sports stadium
Reggae dance-hall artist, Stonebwoy, said no artist in his class has achieved the milestones he has, citing his self-financed, sold-out concert at a 40,000-seater Accra sports stadium as evidence.
He emphasised that the event even exceeded capacity, accommodating over 55,000 fans, a feat he claims no one else in his category has accomplished.
However, Stonebwoy didn’t shy away from addressing what he sees as a lack of recognition for such accomplishments.
Speaking on Accra-based 3music the Sobolo hitmaker said, “I know the amount of dollars that I spent to put that capacity. No artist in my class, not to say legends, has done that yet,” he stated.
The artist also pointed out the absence of sponsorship for his show, emphasising that he personally bore the financial burden. “Did you guys see any sponsors on that stage?” he questioned, pointing to the magnitude of his independent efforts.
Stonebwoy’s remarks also challenge the status quo within the music industry, calling for a shift in how contributions are acknowledged. He argued that some industry players dominate the narrative without the achievements to back their claims, leaving little room for true pacesetters to receive their due credit.
“Some of us have to be speaking. It’s just because we don’t like to speak. We’ve left it for people who feel like they’re in the industry and are press,” he said.
Renowned for his energetic performances, Stonebwoy’s track record of sold-out shows extends beyond Ghana’s borders. His “Ashaiman to the World” concert has drawn massive crowds over the years, while international venues in London, New York, and Amsterdam have also witnessed his star power.
