No agreement with StarTimes – GFA President Kurt Okraku

Ghana Football Association (GFA) President Kurt Okraku has refuted allegations that the Association has signed a new five-year broadcasting deal with pay-TV network StarTimes for the Ghana Premier League.

StarTimes Public Relations Officer (PRO) Eli Kondoh, speaking on Sporty FM, had stated that both parties had resolved outstanding issues and agreed on a fresh deal. According to Kondoh, the agreement followed a payment plan to clear debts from a previous contract, and the new agreement would run from the upcoming season.

“So yes, there was an agreement to clear all of that debt. And then, there was also another plan for how the new payment for the upcoming deal would be handled. Both parties have agreed on the new broadcast deal, but the GFA is yet to sign,” he said.

However, Okraku responded via Facebook, insisting no agreement has been reached. He described the claims as false and urged the public to disregard them.

The GFA and StarTimes had a difficult relationship in the past, which led the FA to choose multiple broadcasters last season due to unresolved issues. As the new season is set to begin in September, the GFA has not yet confirmed an official broadcast partner for the league.
