The Nursing and Midwifery Council of Ghana (N&MC) has suspended the implementation of a 445% increase in verification fees.
The N&MC also scrapped other charges imposed on nurses that could worsen their economic conditions.
It will be recalled that the Ghana Registered Nurses and Midwives Association(GRNMA) recently announced its plan to protest against the increment of the verification from GH¢500 to GH¢3,000, representing 445 per cent by the N&MC.
N&MC, at a meeting with the 15th Governing Board on Tuesday, March 26, 2024, announced the suspension of the fees.
The N&MC said its decision was taken after discussions with relevant stakeholders about their concerns, and the previous fee structure will be upheld.
“At its meeting held on March 26, 2024, the 15th Governing Board of the Nursing and Midwifery Council took a decision to halt the implementation of the newly approved fees and charges pending its review.
“This decision follows discussions with relevant stakeholders regarding their concerns. In the meantime, the Council will revert to the previous fee structure,” a statement which communicated the decision of the N&MC said.
