Nigerian socialite dies during liposuction

A Port Harcourt-based socialite, Miriam Christabel, has died during liposuction at a Lagos hospital.

Liposuction is a surgical procedure that uses a suction technique to remove fat from specific areas of the body, such as the abdomen, hips, thighs, buttocks, arms or neck. Liposuction also shapes (contours) these areas. Other names for liposuction include lipoplasty and body contouring.

A friend of the deceased, Sandra, broke the news on Twitter, revealing that the hospital kept mute on her friend’s death.

According to her, the young lady’s family was only informed about her death days after they visited the hospital to ask about her whereabouts.

Christabel, who also runs a skin beauty business, died on Tuesday, 31 May 2022.

The deceased hailed from Akwa Ibom State and graduated from the University of Port Harcourt.

According to her friend, she paid 3 million naira for the surgery.

Friends and associates expressed their heartfelt condolences on Instagram.

“After the surgery, she complained of bleeding, and the doctors claimed it is normal it will stop. Now, this is the problem. How are you a highly skilled and professional plastic Surgeon with experience abroad and someone you finished operating on complained about bleeding and said it is normal it will stop?” the tweeter handle @poshcupcake_1 added.
