Former Northern Regional Chairman of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Bugri Naabu, has said that National Intelligence Bureau (NIB) officials stormed his office and arrested his aide and a receptionist.

According to Mr Naabu, his aide, S.K, and his receptionist, Akua, were picked up at his office on Thursday morning.

He stated that after arriving at his office and not finding them, he became concerned and attempted to contact them.

“I learnt they came with a white car and police people, men well-armed, pushed them in and took them away. I don’t know their whereabouts, but I am getting information that they are in BNI (now NIB), Kawukudi Junction,” he said.

The former chairman stated that he intends to go to the NIB office with his lawyers to find out why they were arrested as he pleaded with journalists to help find his aides.

“So I am appealing to you, the journalists, and I am getting some lawyers also to join them to find out what is happening,” he said in an interview with Kumasi-based Oyerepa FM, monitored by The Ghana Report.

He also added that he suspects the arrest was linked to a leaked tape plotting the removal of the Inspector General of Police (IGP), Dr George Akuffo Dampare.

The situation is still being investigated, and more information is expected to emerge.

Meanwhile, Mr Naabu has denied his involvement in the leaked audio, although several accusations and speculations have linked him to the recording.

While he acknowledged the existence of the recording, he insisted he was not part of the individuals who had those discussions.
