The National Health Insurance Authority (NHIA) has released an additional GH¢267.67 million to health facilities across Ghana, settling vetted claims submitted up to April 2025.

This latest injection brings the total amount disbursed over the past seven months to more than GH¢1.5 billion.

The payment, approved by NHIA Chief Executive Dr Victor Asare Bampoe, is part of the Authority’s ongoing effort to keep healthcare providers financially stable and ensure uninterrupted service delivery under the National Health Insurance Scheme (NHIS).

Of the total amount, public health facilities received GH¢120.7 million, private facilities were paid GH¢100.2 million, and mission health facilities got GH¢46.7 million.

In a statement issued on July 8, the NHIA said the funds were released under its prompt payments regime, which was introduced earlier this year to support timely reimbursements and maintain a debt-free status for 2025.

“The NHIA’s prompt payments regime has helped us stay current with reimbursements and build trust with our healthcare partners,” said Dr Bampoe. “We’re committed to making sure providers have the resources they need to care for our people.”

The NHIA’s mandate includes funding services for disease conditions covered under the NHIS Benefit Package, which addresses over 95 per cent of illnesses in Ghana. The package is backed by more than 550 approved medicines.
