Dennis Miracles Aboagye, an aide to the New Patriotic Party (NPP) presidential candidate, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, has begun visiting several ghetto communities in Accra to thank residents for the support they showed him after his recent arrest over allegations involving the misappropriation of GH¢55 million.
Officers of the Ghana Immigration Service arrested Miracles at the Accra International Airport on Saturday, July 11, 2026, when he returned from a trip abroad. The following morning, they handed him over to the Economic and Organised Crime Office (EOCO) to assist with investigations.
His arrest drew strong reactions from some members of the NPP. On Monday, July 13, party supporters gathered at EOCO’s headquarters and called for his release.
During a visit to one of the communities on Saturday, July 18, Miracles said the public support deeply touched him. He explained that he wanted to personally thank the people who stood by him, including many he had never met before.
“I came to thank all of you. I saw the love and support you showed me when I came out. Most of you, I had never met before, but your support meant a lot,” he said.
He also promised never to forget their kindness and described the residents as part of his family.
“If not for you, I may still have been in custody. After today, we are family. I will never forget you,” he added.
Miracles previously served as the Executive Secretary of the Inter-Ministerial Coordinating Committee on Decentralisation. EOCO is investigating him over alleged financial and procurement irregularities involving about GH¢55 million. The claims relate to activities during his time in office.
Despite the allegations, Miracles has consistently denied any wrongdoing. He insists that every decision and action he took while in office followed the law and the required procedures.
After questioning him, EOCO granted him bail of GH¢50 million with three sureties.
The investigation is still ongoing as EOCO continues to examine the circumstances surrounding the alleged financial and procurement irregularities.
