Newly posted teachers plan protest over months of unpaid salaries
A group of newly posted teachers is planning a demonstration on September 23, 2025, to demand the payment of salaries that have been delayed for several months.
The teachers, made up of recent graduates from Colleges of Education and public universities, say they have not been paid for over a year in some cases.
College graduates claim they have gone 12 months without salaries, while university-trained teachers report eight months of non-payment.
The group, known as the Aggrieved Newly Posted Teachers, described their situation as unbearable.
They say the lack of income has left many of them struggling to survive.
Some have lost their homes due to unpaid rent, while others are unable to afford food, medication, or to settle basic utility bills.
At a press conference held in Accra, the Lead Convener, Simon Kofi Nartey, appealed directly to President John Dramani Mahama for urgent help.
“We know that His Excellency is a listening president. We humbly call for his urgent intervention to ensure that the Ministry of Finance releases the necessary funds to pay our arrears and salaries without further delay,” he said.
The teachers say they have reached a breaking point and have issued a warning that if their salaries, arrears, and staff ID numbers are not processed by the end of September, they will take to the streets of Accra in a massive protest to make their voices heard.
